Tucked along the banks of the Damodar River, the retreat provides stunning views of the flowing river surrounded by lush greenery. The property is beautifully maintained, with lush green lawns, flower beds, and open spaces where families can unwind. Every corner of the property offers a stunning view of either the Damodar River or the surrounding greenery. Mornings were particularly magical, as the mist rising from the river created a dreamy, almost otherworldly atmosphere.

Each room is spacious, tastefully furnished, and includes all the amenities you’d expect from a luxury resort—air conditioning, a mini-fridge, and even a cozy seating area.
For our stay, we opted River View Glass Houses with Private Lawn. The private balcony was the best part. I spent the early-morning tranquil hours here sipping hot tea and absorbing in the peaceful view of the river.
The property has a large area dedicated to car parking. There are options in the resort for the driver’s accommodation also.
Arrival and Check-In Experience
Upon our arrival, we were greeted with warm hospitality and offered welcome drinks. The reception is adjoining the play area which allowed the kids to play while we, the adults, completed our check-in formalities.
Family-Friendly Activities
Damodar Valley Resort is not just about relaxation; there are several activities for every age group that families can enjoy together. We spent a good amount of time strolling through the walking area by the river. For someone who is a bird-watcher, you can spot various species of birds and plants native to the region.
The best and the most attractive part of the Damodar Valley Resort is the infinity pool that directly faces the flowing Damodar River. The pool has two sections: a smaller section for the kids which is not deep and the bigger section for the adults which is deep and faces the river. A relaxing dip in the cool waters of the swimming pool turned into an hours-long play and a series of photo sessions at the infinity pool.
In the afternoons, we headed to the expansive badminton court to have a shot at our no-so-perfect badminton expertise. Later, we went to the play area where we could find a lot of indoor games like archery, carrom, chess, ludo, table tennis etc.
Outside, there is also a small football field with mini goal posts to channelize our inner Messi or Ronaldo.
For those who love adventure, the resort also offers options like river rafting and fishing. The resort also provides a boat-ride to enjoy the serenity of the Damodar River.
Culinary Experience
The resort offers an exquisite dining experience. The on-site restaurant serves a wide variety of dishes, ranging from local Bengali delicacies to more familiar continental options. Each meal was a delightful experience, filled with fresh ingredients and authentic flavors.
For lunch, we indulged in some local specialties like Bengali-style chicken curry with white rice, dal (lentils), aloo-posto and misti-doi.
Breakfast at the retreat is an inclusive buffet, offering everything from freshly baked bread and eggs to traditional Indian fare like aloo parathas and poha. Breakfast was complimentary in our package.
The food is also served in rooms in case someone is not able to eat at the restaurant.
Overall, we had a fantastic experience at the Damodar River Retreat. This luxury resort is perfect for families, for those who love nature, seek adventure, and explore offbeat destinations. It’s a hidden gem where you can disconnect from your daily routine, bond with nature, and return home feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
