Gulmarg, also known as the “Meadow of Flowers”, is a picturesque hill-station in Kashmir renowned for its beautiful landscapes and winter sports. At its heart lies the Gulmarg Gondola, one of the world’s highest cable car systems that offers breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, lush valleys, and pristine forests. It is one of the biggest attractions that ferry tourists from Gulmarg town to the top of nearby Apharwat Peak.
The Gulmarg Gondola is a joint venture by J&K Government and French firm Poma. It is the second-longest and second-highest cable car in the world after the Mi Teleférico in Bolivia and at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
What is a Gondola?
A gondola typically means a light, flat-bottomed boat with raised points at both ends used to ferry people on the Venetian canals. In the Cambridge Dictionary, it is also used to explain a container in which passengers travel, esp. one hung from a thick wire which moves up a mountain.
